Kingdom of Priests

In 1 Peter 2:5 it tells us, “Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.”

New Testament believers are considered a kingdom of priests, with Yeshua (Jesus, the anointed one) reigning as King. New Testament believers can rightfully anoint themselves with oil as a physical manifestation of their being filled continuously with the Ruach Ha Kodesh (Holy Spirit), as oil is symbolic of the Holy Spirit.

2 Corinthians 1:20-22 reminds us that we are anointed by God: “For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us. Now he which stablisheth us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is God. It is God who sets us in firm union with the Messiah; He has anointed us, put His seal on us, and given us His spirit.”

In the Gospel of John 2:20 and 27, it says that the believer has received the Messiah’s anointing and that the Messianic anointing they received from the Father remains in them. It is his Messianic anointing that continues to teach you about all things (including how to use oils), so it is important to remain united to him.

Some may debate whether or not anointing with oil is a practice that should be continued today. What they may not realize is being anointed with oil is a prophetic charade (or physical manifestation) of their being filled continuously with the Holy Spirit. This practice should not be isolated as a one-time event, but should be practiced daily. We see this act of anointing done by ordinary Israelites throughout scripture. A few examples are given below:

  • Ruth 3:3
  • 2 Chronicles 28:15
  • Daniel 10:3
  • Amos 6:6
  • Matthew 6:17
  • James 5:14
