Spiritual Healing – Healing In The Early Church
Spiritual Healing – How The Early Church
In the scriptures the Early Christians healed all those who were sick in body and mind. Have you ever thought about how their particular style of healing might relate to healing today’s health problems? There actually is some science to what they were doing for one another. Their great teacher Jesus modeled for them a method that he knew would work and then sent his disciples out into the towns and villages for a little practical hand-on experience. They came back amazed that it actually worked for them as it had for Jesus. So what was the method he taught them and wanted them to model for the next generations all the way down to present day?
- They prayed
- They touched
- They anointed
Primarily Jesus’ audience was an agrarian Jewish society who were used to praying to God for life, safety, health and sustenance. Prayer to be effective must come from the heart (heartfelt) which lifts you to a higher plane and connection with the Creator. For healing to occur, the facilitator must be the conduit for God’s grace and energy to flow through their heart for the highest and best purpose for the one being prayer for. Prayer then is about an energy flow.
When they touched or laid-on hands, they provided a means through which this healing was transmitted to the one in need. Again, the facilitator of this healing is but the instrument through which God’s grace and energy can flow. Keeping the ego out of this is important. As I teach my students all over the world, God could have used someone else-you just happen to be available in the moment. That’s humbling.
And thirdly, they anointed with an oil-not just any oil and certainly not their cooking or their lamp oil which would have been olive oil. They used the known healing oils of their day and again according to the scriptures, we find oils like frankincense, myrrh, balsam, cedarwood, spikenard, among many others. Science shows us that these oils in their pure form (medicinal grade) carry a high vibrational frequency meaning they can raise the vibrational frequency of the one who needs healing-just as the prayer and the touching have raised the person’s vibrational frequency.
How Can Science Help Us Understand This?
Science has shown that when one is sick whether in mind or body, their “vibrational frequency” has dropped. In Western Medicine we would say their immune system is down. So the early Christians had tapped into three forms of vibrational healing. No wonder they were successful healers.
Combining prayer, hands-on healing and anointing with medicinal (essential) oils takes practice. The disciples learned daily from Jesus before they were sent out but we have forgotten our story of healing in Christianity. Educational courses that are Christian-based can help reclaim our rightful role in healing. You will find courses available on this website here or The institute of Spiritual Healing & Aromatherapy teaches courses throughout the United States on spiritual healing and on aromatherapy.
